We picked VinAudit because it gives buyers a low-cost way to check important vehicle history records. In our test, the report covered vehicle specifications, title records, junk and salvage records, insurance records, theft records, lien, impound and export checks, salvage auction information, title brand checks, odometer brand checks, and NMVTIS disclosure notes.
VinAudit is useful if you want a quick title, salvage, theft, lien, export, or odometer check without paying for a more expensive report.
It is not the most visual report. It also does not give the same level of auction photos, pricing tools, or damage context as some higher-ranked providers. But for a low-cost NMVTIS-style report, it does the job.
| PACKAGE | PRICE | PRICE PER REPORT |
|---|---|---|
| 1 Report | $9.99 | $9.99 |
| 5 Reports Best deal | $19.99 | $4.00 |
The single report price is low enough for a quick check.
The 5-report package is better if you are comparing several vehicles. At $4.00 per report, it is one of the cheapest options in this comparison.
VinAudit is mainly built around NMVTIS data.
In our sample report, the most useful records came from:
Basic vehicle details from VIN data.
Can include year, make, model, trim, body style, engine, country of manufacture, anti-brake system, dimensions, fuel economy, and other VIN-based information. Helps buyers check whether the report matches the vehicle being sold.
Current and historical state title records.
In our sample report, this section listed title records with dates, states, title type, mileage, and VIN information. One of the most important sections for seeing where the vehicle was titled and whether records changed over time.
Junk, salvage, or insurance activity.
In our sample report, this section showed a junk and salvage record from an insurance-related source. These records can point to serious past damage or total loss activity.
Theft and theft recovery records.
In the sample report, this section included both a theft record and a theft recovery record. Theft history can affect buyer confidence, paperwork review, insurance, and resale value.
Legal, ownership, and export-related checks.
In our sample report, this section showed no lien, impound, or export records found. Helps buyers check for possible legal or ownership concerns.
Salvage auction listing details when available.
In our sample report, the salvage auction section showed listing details such as location, damage area, sale document, odometer reading, and exterior color. Not as photo-heavy or detailed as stronger auction-focused reports.
Title brand and odometer category checks.
Includes checks for flood damage, fire damage, hail damage, junk, rebuilt, salvage, collision, recovered theft, odometer issues, manufacturer buyback, and other title brands. In our sample report, this section helped confirm rebuilt and salvage records.
NMVTIS disclosure and data coverage explanation.
Explains that NMVTIS is useful for title and brand history, but does not include every repair, accident, service event, or hidden damage record. Important for buyers because a clean or limited report should never replace a vehicle inspection.
VinAudit worked best as a low-cost title and problem-check report.
The report was not fancy, but it covered important areas: title records, salvage history, theft records, lien/export checks, auction listing data, title brand checks, and odometer problem checks.
The strongest part was the NMVTIS-style structure. Buyers can quickly review whether a vehicle has major title brands, salvage records, theft history, or odometer warnings.
The weaker side was depth. The sample report did not include vehicle photos, deep auction evidence, pricing tools, market analysis, or detailed maintenance records. It also looked more like a database report than a modern buyer-friendly report.
We would use VinAudit as a first-pass check. It is useful when you want to screen a vehicle cheaply before deciding whether it deserves a deeper report, inspection, or seller follow-up.
VinAudit is a good budget choice for buyers who mainly want title, salvage, theft, lien, export, and odometer checks.
It is not the best report for photos, auction research, service history, or pricing context. The layout is basic, and the report does not feel as rich as the top providers.
But for $9.99, VinAudit gives buyers a practical way to catch major title and history problems early. It is the provider we would use when price matters most and a basic NMVTIS-style check is enough.
Start by entering the VIN on the VinAudit website. The VIN is usually found on the dashboard, driver-side door frame, registration document, insurance document, or vehicle title.
VinAudit is mainly built for paid vehicle history reports. Before paying, check that the VIN is correct. A single wrong character can lead to the wrong vehicle.
You can buy one report or a 5-report package. The 5-report package gives the lowest price per report.
After payment, open the report and check the main sections first: title records, junk and salvage records, theft records, lien/export checks, problem checks, and odometer records.
If the report shows salvage, rebuilt, theft, odometer, or title issues, review the vehicle carefully before moving forward. For higher-risk vehicles, it may still be worth using a deeper report provider or getting a full inspection.
ClearVIN is a better fit if you want more title, salvage, auction, mileage, and photo detail. It costs more for one report, but it gave us much more useful context in testing.
carVertical is better if you want a cleaner, more visual report. It is useful for mileage concerns, damage history, theft checks, and imported vehicles.
EpicVIN is a better fit if you want vehicle history with pricing context, including sales history, market price data, price charts, and ownership cost estimates.
